Experiencing ATHGO International....

It has been awhile since I have attended ATHGO, and I do apologize for my delayed response. However, my experiences and enthusiasm has yet to be far from faded from my memories.

ATHGO Day One

So the first day of the ATHGO forum on Global Governance has come and gone... I was very surprised at the diversity of students present, there were quite a few international students as well as a very broad age range (I fear I'm the youngest one there)... The program began with a speech by Sharad Sapra, the diretor of the division of communication at UNICEF (he had very interesting ideas on furthering the use of cell phones for purposes of equality, empowerment, and literacy improvement).

ATHGO Day !

Today was the first day of the ATHGO conference on global governance at the United Nations Headquarters. After meeting the Director of the United Nations University as well as Ambassadors from China, Singapore, Albania, and Syria we were asked to form small groups to discuss our business proposal s and policy proposals. SO far the conference has been a great way to network with other highly motivated students as well as individuals of the diplomatic community. Hopefully Day 2 will be even better.

Busy Busy!

Things have really picked up at Us lately. Last week my supervisor was out, which meant that every reporter in the building had a thousand things they needed the interns to do for them. With no one to say, "no, do that yourself" on our behalf, things got pretty crazy. We barely had chance to breathe! But we were privy to some cool dirt on celebs and info about who's going to win which reality TV show this week so how can a girl can complain?

Writing, Writing, Writing

Things have definitely been busy! I've been inputting feedback forms for WGL's Michigan events (everything was great!) and I'm currently brainstorming on some ideas for Gloria's new website. Balancing work and school is definitely tough - it's very difficult to find a balance that doesn't leave you emotionally and physically exhausted. It's strange to say, but I'm still having so much fun.

Happy Spring

Happy spring everyone.
My internship at Worldwide Voices is going very well as the semester progresses. I have been given an assignment that involves bringing the organization to our campus and recruiting students who are interested in getting involved. I have been busy making flyers, emailing potential faculty and student contacts, and helping my employers work through the process of creating an on-campus club. This has proven so far to be a challenge but should be exciting once things take off. My communication skills are certainly getting a workout!

Business as usual

Things have been pretty slow at Us...especially considering I took this week off for spring break! My past few days into the office have been nothing out of the ordinary- transcribing an interview with a celebrity hairdresser, doing various research projects, viewing prerecorded TV shows to find celebrity quotes, and most importantly, delivering the mail.

The Beat Goes On...

Not too much to report at the moment, just continually following up on projects for Gloria and the panel. The panel is still in Michigan and will be arriving in New York on Wednesday morning. Hopefully the event(s) that they're scheduled for successfully transpire over the next few days! I'll keep you posted.

Women, Girls and Ladies

Things have been so hectic the past few weeks! I've been working on logistics for upcoming WomenGirlsLadies events, including the "big ones" at Michigan this week from March 14 - 18. It's amazing how much my work with the panel has evolved since October. What started out as a 20-hour project has turned into an intergenerational feminist tour, complete with stops at some of the country's most prestigious universities. It's such a thrill to be able to contribute to the success of such progressive and talented female leaders.

Do the words "celebrity" and "journalism" even belong together?

Celebrity journalism. Some people thrive off of it and others despise it. While my opinion tends to lean towards the latter, I've come to realize that putting out a magazine like Us Weekly every week is no easy task. Like any other magazine, people have to uncover the stories, do the reporting, design the layout, etc.
