Internships for Credit
An internship for credit is more than a job. An internship for credit is a semester long period of learning and exploration under the guidance of the Career Center, the employer, and faculty. As a faculty member supporting an intern, you can expect the student to initiate meetings, keep you informed about his/her progress at the internship, and produce a series of reflective journals. Please scroll down and review the syllabus attachment for EXT. You may use the EXT syllabus for your departmental internship program.
EXT 488 and EXT 288 are internship tutorials supervised by the Career Center. You may enroll a student in EXT if a proposed internship does not meet your academic discipline's area of interest. For example, an AMS student completing an internship with a non-profit political action group would need to enroll in EXT. Download the agreement form for EXT registration on the bottom of the page.
Refer to the process document for EXT prerequisites below as well..
Note: The National Society for Experiential Education offers many resources for the development and improvement of experiential education programs. They have created a national Standard of Practice for Experiential Learning Activities.
